Walmart Trucks Bring Water, Relief to Hurricane Sandy Victims

We’re deeply concerned by the devastation we’ve seen and our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured or lost family members in this horrible storm.

Walmart is committed to being a community partner in recovery efforts. We are pledging up to $1.5 million to help with relief efforts in the hardest hit areas to ensure the essential needs of residents are being met.

Statement from Sylvia Burwell, President of the Walmart Foundation

“Given the tremendous devastation across the region, Walmart has been in constant contact with state, city and local agencies to understand the specific needs of impacted communities, to listen and to act. In addition to providing food and personal care products like diapers and shelter supplies, we now have scheduled the delivery of about 1 million bottles of water, half going to the five boroughs of New York City and half going to the state of New Jersey.

Walmart will stay in touch with government officials throughout the tri-state area as well as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and Feeding America to monitor further ways to help. Our thoughts and prayers remain with those who have been affected, and we’ll continue to play a role in the greater recovery effort.” — Sylvia Burwell, President, Walmart Foundation
